INVITATION
Another year, another Cognitive ! It would have been difficult to imagine five years ago to reach this point: here we are again to start invitation and program processes for another Cognitive; Cognitive VII th which will be held between May 18-21, 2010 in Istanbul. It may be surprising to see İstanbul as meeting venue instead of Marmaris. We have a reason for this change : The story starts three and a half years ago in Buenos Aires where World Federation of Neurology Research Group on Aphasia and Cognitive Disorders (WFNRGACD) bi-annual meeting took place. During the business meeting at the end of the event I offered İstanbul as meeting venue for 2010 Meeting and last year at the end of the WFNRGACD 2008 Edinburgh Meeting İstanbul was officially chosen as expected! During the conversations between myself, Group’s new chairman Dr. Facundo Manes and co-chair Dr. Thomas Bak the idea came out that we would organize both meetings consequently in İstanbul and we would benefit from some program members of WFNRGACD as speakers of Cognitive VII th.
Our meetings has been the venue of cognitive neurosciences as well as cognitive and behavioral neurology and neuropsychiatry. Therefore, it has been very difficult for us to prepare annual scientific programs with regard to the relationships of areas mentioned and needs of our multidisciplinary attendies as well. But we have to admit the fact that science in the 21 st century is clearly the science of interdisciplinary relationships. It has been one of our major claims that science of brain is the most interdisciplinary one! People would like to come to Cognitive VII th should know that at least two thirds of the topics in the program will be unknown to their disciplines as well as their current scientific understanding! People would like to come to Istanbul should also be aware of the fact that understanding brain means understanding of its facts relevant to the life and its dynamics. As a part of Marmaris meetings tradition İstanbul Meeting also stands for broader understanding in science in a way that psychology, philosophy, anthropology, economy, enginee- ring, ect would come to the stage in relation with the brain analogies. This year’s program, therefore, will be no exception to this fact.
I would like to invite you once again to another cognitive journey to observe and learn more on these topics and experience even more! This time see you in İstanbul in next May!
Best regards,
Oğuz Tanrıdağ M.D
